I Heart My Body 2012
If everybody was skinny, would anybody be skinny?
I snapped this pic about 10 minutes ago while sitting at my desk at work. This is me on a normal, “get ready in 10 minutes” day.
I never much liked my heavier body before, but I appreciate myself more now that I’ve had the baby.
Three things I like about myself now:
1.) Bigger ta-tas
2.) I think my legs look good in heels (which is a plus since I love shoes)
3.) I like the stretch-mark graveyard on my belly.
The last one may be a bit weird, but I seriously think it’s cool. Sure, the skin there is still all gross and saggy, but it took me 9 months to grow those stretch marks – little reminders of the joy in my life.
I’m not sure where the poem originated from, but it’s a perfect description of how I feel about them:
A mark for every breath you took
Every blink, every sleepy yawn.
One for every time you sucked your thumb,
Waved hello, closed your eyes and slept in the most perfect darkness.
One for every time you had the hiccups.
One for every dream you dreamed within me.
It isn’t very pretty anymore.
Some may even think it’s ugly!
That’s OK, it was your home. It held you until my arms could!
It’s where I first grew to love you,
Where I lay my hand as I dreamed about who you were and who you would be.
And for that I will always find something beautiful in it!!!!
True beauty isn’t about what you look like on the outside, because it’s only the inside that counts. Treat people kindly.
Things that make me smile.
If I could only save one home movie from my childhood, my answer would come quickly: Christmas ’86.
Was it fantastic because we got a lot of presents? What is great because we were little angels? Not even close! My sister and I were complete brats!! Well, my sister was a brat. I was just a normal three-year old.
We literally had present tug of wars…. each pulling on one side of the box that was between us. Fighting. Crying. ..
My mom kept turning off the camera to break up fights, and she was sooo embarrassed that her little darlings were behaving like demons. If only she had kept the tape rolling! She was mortified at the time, but 25 years later those little fights are adorable!!
So as I get frustrated that 30 minutes of snapping pictures only nets one decent one:
I’m going to remember to keep the “bad” ones, because they too are my good memories:
Benjamin Alexander
My six weeks of maternity leave went by so quickly……. but now I’m back in the real world. I even made dinner last night (for the first time in a few months! Yikes!)
My little man was born on August 2nd, 8lbs 6oz, 21″.
I had the best c-section EVER! No pain, no pain pills, quick recovery.
He’s so cute!
All I want to do when I get home from work now is sit on the couch and cuddle him!
